Take the 87 north to Payson, the exit is marked (Mt. Ord - safety pull off area) just before the steep descent into the valley. The Sunflower Mine trail is that same exit, except you will turn left as you top the hill with Mt. Ord on your right. The paved road will twist downhill and the entrance to the trail is the 1st right turn (cattle guard). You can park your vehicle there or continue down the gravel road the the next intersection straight or left turn. You will want to take the left turn and then stay on the main trail (main trail stays right - smaller trails with dead ends branch left). Once you are in the seriously rocky creekbed you will eventually come to a section that has a very sharp right with a steep uphill loose rock/dirt you need to take that trail. Continue on until you come to an intersection - go straight to contiue on the Sunflower Mine Loop go left will take you on a nice trail ride as well. Either direction will eventually put you on the original gravel road that you started out on and will take you back to your tow vehicle.
Do not try the trail alone, watch for black-tailed rattlesnakes lot's of them, check out the mines, bring a flashlight, and be careful of the hole with a 2 story drop in the mine on the right (Sunflower Mine - 3 mines together at a dead end trail)and have fun.
